Freedom!2020 captures the precise instant when containment gives way. A golden LEGO figure erupts through a brick wall, scattering fragments into the viewer’s space while holding a small flower—a playful but defiant image of life pushing beyond restriction.

Created at the threshold of 2020, the work acquired an unexpected resonance as confinement, isolation and institutional control became defining global experiences. Its comic-book language initially suggests uncomplicated action: a wall, an impact, an escape. Yet beneath that immediacy lies a tension between restriction and free will, conformity and transformation. The figure is both a familiar product of childhood and a small insurgent body refusing to remain inside the structure built around it.

The wall is deliberately artificial. Painted cardboard imitates solid masonry, while its visible corrugation exposes the fragility behind the illusion. Cracks spread from the central opening in golden yellow, turning damage into energy. Discarded plastic is repurposed within the handmade frame, extending the work’s underlying logic: materials, symbols and imposed boundaries can all be dismantled and reconstructed.

Suspended between sculpture, assemblage and visual storytelling, Freedom!2020 proposes liberation as an active gesture. Freedom is not presented as something granted from outside, but as the force required to create an opening—and the courage to move through it.
